Whatever Floats Your Boat – A Race for Resourceful Recycling
Dubai, UAE, 04 October 2010: In accordance with their ongoing green initiatives, the InterContinental Hotels Group properties in Dubai Festival City in association with MOURJAN MARINAS IGY and Dubai Festival City will hold the third annual 'Whatever Floats Your Boat' recycled boat race competition on Friday, 26th November 2010.
Teams participating in this year's event will have to construct rafts made from recycled materials to race along the Dubai Creek during a fun-filled afternoon at the Festival Marina. The event is open to all local companies and schools to participate in - spaces are limited, so sign up your team now to avoid disappointment.
'Whatever Floats Your Boat' means just that, so be prepared for some whacky designs and resourceful recycling as the teams race to give back to the environment, and all in good humour.
Along with generating awareness for the initiative, a donation of AED 5,000 will be provided by each competing company, with every Dirham raised going directly to the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF). The EWS-WWF plans on using the funds raised to support the ongoing conservation of a critically endangered species of turtle native to the UAE.
Last year's event raised a staggering AED 100,000 for charity to help the EMEG protect the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtles. Organizers hope the event this November will raise the bar even higher. The money raised helped to fund studies of their biology, behavior and population structure, which in turn will aid in the conservation of the species.
The event is open to anyone who wishes to come and support the teams and promises to be an afternoon of amusement not to be missed.
